plastic constellation
this project originated in a maelstrom of ideas, developing at various rates. i was thinking about and experimenting with myriad concepts – the forensics of everyday life, visualizing statistics, the puddle as a liminal space. my gingerly coagulating ideas motivated me to play with water, ice, oil, in the constraining space of translucent containers.
as I sorted through the images, something else began to jell – a tension in scale, in light and shadow that led to the conception of something vast.
in these, i think about playing with scale, with space, in a way that intimates a chiasma in the progression from something on a human magnitude to something infinitesimal, to something infinite. i see in these images a reality that is cloaked in ethereality, shadow, and reflection. they are models of the universe in tupperware, my plastic constellation.
